This month, we couldn't choose just one book to talk about in this culture pie post. We ordered the two above from Amazon, and boy, they're good ! All-time favorite fashion-people memoir is definitely Grace by Grace Coddington, fashion director at Vogue US alongside Anna Wintour. We discovered Grace in The September Issue and as for many people, she quickly became one of our fashion heroines. The book can only make you lover her more and it's filled with her own little fashion sketches ! Then, we have It by Alexa Chung, which isn't really about learning anything new but it's more of a condensed recollection of Chung's thoughts on fashion and life. Easy to read and funny + many cool hipsters photographs ;)
We watched "Diana Vreeland : The Eye Has To Travel" a few months ago and you really need to watch it too. If you like cool rocking chicks who speak their fucking mind (excuse the term), please help yourself to some of Diana's greatest mind-blowing truths about... well almost everything ! As the movie poster says : The Original Devil Wears Prada but with a rad sense of humour. Here are some of our favourite quotes from the darling Queen of everything (now you get it : we're completely, totally hooked and she's one of our heroines !!!) :
- Unshined shoes are the end of civilization !
- A little bad taste is like a nice splash of paprika. We all need a splash of bad taste - it's hearty, it's healthy, it's physical. I think we could use more of it. No taste is what I'm against.
- Prohibition. Insane idea. Try to keep me from taking a swallow of this tea and I'll drink the whole pot.
- Don't think you were born too late. Everyone has that illusion. But you aren't. The only problem is if you think too late.
- When I arrived in America, I had these very dark red nails which some people objected to, but then some people object to absolutely everything.
- To be contented - that's for the cows.
And our most favourite (which totally explains our way of seeing fashion) :
- Fashion is part of the daily air and it changes all the time, with all the events. You can even see the approaching of a revolution in clothes. You can see and feel everything in clothes.
Not really a brand new song, but we love the beat and the fact that there aren't too much lyrics (sometimes it's too much, you can't even think any more). Brodinski, his real name Louis Rogé, from France, always gives you the energy to dance and his music permits you to let the crazy in you go out !
